Indefinite Pronoun: যেসব pronoun বিশেষ কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে না বুঝিয়ে অনির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি বা বন্ধুকে বুঝায়, তাদেরকে indefinite pronoun বলে। Indefinite pronoun: দুই প্রকার।যথা- (i) Positive Pronoun (ii) Negative Pronoun

Positive Pronoun: যেসব pronoun হাঁ-বোধক, তাদেরকে positive pronoun বলে।যেমন- all, each, every, everything, everybody, any, anyone, anything, anybody, some, something, somebody, someone etc.

Negative Pronoun: যেসব pronoun না-বোধক, তাদেরকে negative pronoun বলে।যেমন- none, nobody, no one, nothing, neither etc.

যে Pronoun কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে না বুঝিয়ে অনির্দিষ্ট কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বোঝায়, তাকে Indefinite Pronoun বলে।

• উদাহরণ: One, Any, Some, Many, All, None, Everyone, Someone, Anyone, No one, Everything, Something, Anything, Nothing.

১. Singular Indefinite Pronouns:

নিচের শব্দগুলো সবসময় Singular হিসেবে গণ্য হয় এবং এদের পরে সবসময় Singular Verb বসে।

• শব্দগুলো: Each, Every, Either, Neither, One, Everyone, Everybody, Everything, Someone, Somebody, Something, Anyone, Anybody, Anything, No one, Nobody, Nothing.

  • Example: Everything is (are নয়) possible.

  • Example: Everyone has (have নয়) finished the work.

২. Plural Indefinite Pronouns:

নিচের শব্দগুলো সবসময় Plural এবং এদের পরে Plural Verb বসে।

• শব্দগুলো: Both, Few, Many, Several.

  • Example: Many were invited, but few have come.

৩. 'One'-এর বিশেষ ব্যবহারর:

যদি কোনো বাক্যের Subject হিসেবে 'One' থাকে, তবে তার পরিবর্তে ব্যবহৃত পরবর্তী Pronoun বা Possessive Case অবশ্যই 'One's' হবে (His বা Her নয়)।

• Incorrect: One should do his duty.

• Correct: One should do one's duty.

৪. 'None'-এর ব্যবহার:

'None' সাধারণত Singular এবং Plural উভয় অর্থেই ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে, তবে ফরমাল ইংলিশ বা প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষায় একে Singular হিসেবে ধরাটাই বেশি নিরাপদ।

• Example: None of them is present.

৫. Any, Some, All, Most (পরিস্থিতি অনুযায়ী):

এই শব্দগুলো Countable Noun-এর ক্ষেত্রে Plural এবং Uncountable Noun-এর ক্ষেত্রে Singular হিসেবে কাজ করে।

• Countable: Some of the apples are rotten.

• Uncountable: Some of the water is dirty.

৬. Person বনাম Thing:

• ব্যক্তির ক্ষেত্রে: -body বা -one যুক্ত শব্দ বসে (Someone, Anybody, No one)।

• বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে: -thing যুক্ত শব্দ বসে (Something, Anything, Nothing)।
